Everything you need to know about the creative process and what to expect when working with me.

General Q’s
  • Yes! Although I’m based in Salt Lake City, I photograph weddings primarily in Los Angeles, Orange County, San Francisco and now Seattle.

My standard wedding packages include travel within all of these locations, and I’m available worldwide with an additional fee. Please be sure to reach out for a custom quote – pricing will vary based on the location and season.

  • I’ve got a list of venues and locations I’m dying to shoot at! If your wedding is happening at one of them, HMU for a special rate.

Saiuen Garden | Granite Falls, WA

Moongate Lounge | San Francisco, CA

The Revery | Los Angeles, CA

    Valentine | Los Angeles, CA

    Radio Star | Brooklyn, NYC

    Celestine | Brooklyn, NYC

Rule of Thirds | Brooklyn, NYC

    Kualoa Ranch | Oahu, HI

  • Both! I work primarily with film because I absolutely love its texture and quality. I also use digital when it makes sense for the moment. The two together create a balanced final gallery.

Film is a huge part of my creative process and is included in all my packages. I also offer the option to shoot exclusively with film.

  • I’d recommend reaching out as soon as possible to secure your date, especially if your wedding day is taking place during peak wedding season. However, feel free to inquire about availability at any point! If you would prefer to check my availability first without filling in all the required details on my contact form – you can email me directly at info.weddingsbymars@gmail.com

  • I take a quieter, more relaxed approach to photographing a wedding day – balancing the role of an observer with gentle guidance when the moment allows. While infusing an editorial sensibility, my approach leans heavily into the natural flow of the day. My goal is to capture moments that honor the originality and unique quirks of your personalities, and the overall essence of your wedding day!

  • Most couples I work with aren’t used to being in front of the camera – it’s completely normal! My approach is gentle and guided, focused on helping you feel comfortable, connected and fully yourselves. I’ll give you enough direction to feel confident, without ever making things feel stiff or overly posed. You don’t need to know what to do – that’s what I’m here for.

  • Following our email consultation, I’ll send a custom proposal based on the details you share about your day. After this, we’ll schedule a video meeting to connect more personally and to chat through more details together.

After our call, if you’d like to move forward, I’ll send over a contract along with an invoice for the reservation retainer. Once the contract is signed and the retainer is paid, we’re officially booked!

  • Since most of my couples aren’t local to Salt Lake City, engagement sessions are usually only possible if I’m already traveling to your area for other projects and have time while I’m there. If our schedules don’t line up, a travel fee would apply – or we can always plan a day-after session instead!

Once we're booked
  • No, thank you :)

I find that following one can pull me away from the real, spontaneous moments that make your day feel genuine. Trusting me to document things as they unfold allows me to stay creative and present with you.

That said, a family photo list is always helpful. Having those groupings planned out and appointing someone to round up people is appreciated and will make that part of the day so much smoother.

  • During the days leading up to your wedding, you’re always welcome to reach out – whether it’s about timeline planning, vendor recommendations, wedding details, or anything photography-related.

No stress if you don’t have everything figured out right away. About 5-6 weeks before the big day, I’ll check in so we can catch up and finalize all the important details together through an online questionnaire form.

On the wedding day
  • My approach leans more on observation than direction. I step in the most during portraits and family groupings, but otherwise I like to give you space to enjoy your day and let moments unfold naturally. Spontaneity is a big part of my work – I’ll guide when it’s helpful, and step back to quietly observe when the moment calls for it.

  • I adapt easily to unexpected changes! Some of the most beautiful images come from unplanned moments, IMO. If it rains, we’ll grab some umbrellas, find good light indoors, or just roll with it. I’ll be sure to make sure you’re taken care of no matter what.

  • Sometimes, depending on the size and logistics of your wedding!

A second photographer may be required if you’re having a larger guest count, events happening in multiple locations at once, or if you’d like additional angles and coverage throughout the day. If it makes sense for your wedding, I’ll walk you through those options during planning, which do come with an additional fee.

after the wedding day
  • It’s common in the wedding world to share previews shortly after the day – but it’s not something that I do. I believe your wedding gallery should be experienced as a whole.

Because I work primarily with film, everything is processed and scanned by a local lab before I begin editing. Once the film comes back, I use it as the reference point for matching tones and colors across your digital images. This means editing doesn’t usually begin until the film is ready, and timing can vary depending on how busy my lab is.

It’s a slower process, but one that makes the final gallery feel that much more intentional. Think of it like Christmas morning – the anticipation makes it even more special, and I promise it’ll be worth the wait!

  • Full galleries are typically delivered within 8-10 weeks.

If you’d like them sooner, I offer a 2-week priority edit service for $400, which also covers rush fees for film processing.

  • Nope! I take pride in my editing style and prefer to keep that part of the process in my own hands. It’s where I bring the colors, tones, and overall mood of your day together, and I want every image you receive to feel consistent with my vision and approach.
